Starting tomorrow, October 1st, a strong is expected rebound in tariffs energy, in particular for the electricity and gas bills. For families in greater protection, the increase will be in the order of + 15.6% for electricity with an increase of + 11.4% for the gas component. As Arera communicates, however, these are physiological increases that follow the sharp drops in the second quarter of the year (in full lockdown). Reductions which, let us remember, were equal to -18.3% for electricity and -13.5% for gas and which continued, then, in part also in the third quarter (in the heart of summer), when gas tariffs registered a –6.7%. Conversely, the electricity bill had increased by + 3.3%. Now we are grappling with a sting of electricity and gas bills from 1 October 2020. And the reason is simply linked to the trend in demand.
Basically, since economic activities have returned to more or less full capacity, the logical consequence has been the increase in energy consumption. For the law of supply and demand, even the costs in the bill have almost returned to pre-Covid levels.
The savings for 2020 are still guaranteed
According to the Energy Authority, 2020 was in any case a year that saw a clear saving in the bill both as regards the electricity and gas components. The Authority has in fact estimated, in favor of families, a cut of 207 euros (compared to 2019) on the total expenditure of the two users. Part of this saving, and precisely 74 euros, is due to the lower expenditure on light. The remaining 133 euros, however, will come from the gas front.
Stinging of electricity and gas bills from 1st October 2020
Of course, the constant dilemma of a consumer (single, average family or economic activity) is to identify an expedient that implies an incisive cut in consumption. Below we list some valuable suggestions.
a) The red lights of the appliances. These spies constitute the most subtle of our oversights. A television, a computer or any other household accessory in standby, that is, switched on and not used, still devour energy. In a two-month period they can reach up to 8% of the electricity bill. You can turn them off: it is one of the possible measures and within our reach.
b) Keep house shutters closed in both summer and winter. It is one of the most basic rules for maintaining an average temperature throughout the year. In the first place, by doing so, we avoid getting drafts of air, hot or cold (depending on the season), coming from outside into our homes. Secondly, having the hot / cold air conditioners running, keeping the house shutters tightly closed avoids a significant waste of climatic well-being towards the outside of the building.
c) Correct use of household appliances. Dishwashers, washing machines, refrigerators, electric ovens, and so on, should be used wisely. So, make sure you have the right load of them before activating them. Otherwise the consumption-benefit ratio is to the detriment of the account in the bill.
