Electrical storms and winds of up to 50 km/h are expected in Chillán – La Discusión

For tomorrow, Thursday, new rains are forecast for the city of Chillán, with approximate amounts that can reach 10 millimeters of water fall. The frontal system will arrive in the area this Wednesday night with isolated rains in different communities in the region.

But the alert is placed on the probable electrical storms that would be recorded during the morning and afternoon of Thursday, which is why the Chilean Meteorological Directorate issued a warning for this condition that the frontal system would bring. Storms that could also extend into the night, at which time the weather event would leave the area.

In the words of Cristóbal Torres, meteorologist at the Chilean Meteorological Directorate, more rain would be recorded in the foothills and mountain ranges, where it is estimated that between 10 and 20 millimeters will fall.

“This is a frontal system that will affect the central area, which will leave rainfall and thunderstorms during the afternoon. That is general, so we expect amounts for the city of Chillán that will be around 10 millimeters and there may be a little more between 10 and 20 mm towards the pre-Andean and Andean sectors. This event would last until Thursday night and the fort would be concentrated in the afternoon hours,” he explained.

After this event, a mass of cold air is expected to arrive, which would border on 0 degrees in several locations in Ñuble. The meteorologist commented that he will be present, at least, until Monday.

“After the rainfall, a mass of cold air will enter that should be present during the weekend and the minimum will be between 1 and 2 degrees, between Sunday and Monday. We first have the arrival of this frontal system, to then give way to the cold air mass associated with this event,” he stressed.

On the other hand, the Directorate also issued a warning for winds that could reach gusts of up to 50 kilometers per hour throughout the Ñuble region, both on the coast, valley and mountain range. The event would be accompanied along with the frontal system and would end early Friday morning.
