The Electric Company of the capital has communicated that since early Saturday morning, the Havana municipality of El Cotorro has experienced interruptions in the electricity supply due to a “major failure” in the Loma de Tierra Substation. This situation has generated various speculations among citizens, who attribute the incident to an alleged act of “sabotage.”
The Cuban state entity, through its official Facebook account, has reported the details of the incident. According to the statement, the failure at the Loma de Tierra 33/4.16kV Substation has affected the electrical service in a specific quadrant of the municipality, made up of streets 101, 20, 100 and 62. The Magdalena, Purísima, Águila Hatuey, Santa Clara, Santa Ana, Santa Isabel, Lotería, Loma de Tierra and Violeta are the most affected by this situation.
The company has highlighted the presence of specialists on site, who are working hard to solve the problem. However, the process has experienced delays due to damage caused to the facility. With this, it is intended to deny the rumors that circulate about an alleged attack that would have caused the explosion of part of the substation.
However, some publications on Facebook support the rumor of sabotage, which has spread throughout the Havana municipality, being supported by images that show the presence of criminal vehicles in the place.

It should be remembered that in November of last year there was also suspicion of possible sabotage at the Antonio Guiteras thermoelectric plant, which was initially intervened by State Security. However, technicians and workers at the plant later ruled out sabotage, attributing the failure to electrical problems in the generation system.
The current situation in El Cotorro has generated concern and discomfort among the residents of the area, who have been affected by the interruption of the electricity supply.
The UNE has assured that they are working hard to solve the problem and restore electrical service as soon as possible. It is essential that specialists identify and repair the fault in the Loma de Tierra Substation to avoid future interruptions and guarantee a stable and reliable supply.
