Electric trucks: Baden-Württemberg promotes charging infrastructure

According to the Ministry of Transport, the two funding programs for electric trucks and charging infrastructure “have already triggered applications for investments of around 60 million euros in just a few weeks”. This shows that “we are on the right track so that every second ton of goods in Baden-Württemberg will be transported in a climate-neutral manner by 2030,” said State Transport Minister Winfried Hermann (Greens). Electric trucks are “the future of freight transport on the road,” the minister continued.

The ministry estimates that up to 200 vehicles will soon be rolling on Baden-Württemberg’s roads thanks to the BW e-Trucks funding. This will give a massive boost to the registration of heavy electric trucks in the country. At the beginning of the year there were still 70 vehicles registered.

“The response from the logistics industry is very positive and encouraging,” said Hermann. The funding made an important contribution to positioning Baden-Württemberg as a pioneer of climate-neutral logistics. The funds from the BW-e-Trucks funding program amounting to 7.5 million euros have been “exhausted”.

The ministry had set up a second funding line to expand the charging infrastructure. The TruckCharge@BW funding program is still running and is also generating great interest. With TruckCharge@BW, the state supports companies in setting up high-performance charging points for electric trucks. Funding is currently still available and most of it has to be paid out by the end of 2025. Hermann recommends that companies take advantage of this funding quickly. According to the ministry, between 200 and 300 charging points can be set up with the funding.
