A severe taxi crash in Paris has killed one person and injured 20 others, three of them in serious condition, Reuters reports.
According to the deputy director of the taxi company, Jan Ricordel, the driver was taking his family to a restaurant during overtime, when the electric car hit a cyclist and three pedestrians, then crashed into a bus, which injured 7 people.
According to the information from the taxi company, the driver reported a breakdown in the electric car “Tesla” – he pressed the brake, but instead the car accelerated. It is not clear whether the car was in autopilot mode.
“Today we have two different points of view on the subject. We will stop using the Tesla Model 3 while the investigation is ongoing as a safety measure for our drivers, customers and other road users,” said Jan Ricordel.
The G7 is one of the largest taxi companies in Paris with 9,000 drivers who are independent operators and vehicle owners. Half of the G7’s fleet is electric or hybrid cars, and the company aims to have a 100% green fleet by 2027.
Tesla has not yet come out with an official position, they only point out that there are still no specific data on technical damage in the car.
