Electric speedboat roars across the Rhine: this boat can fly – Cologne

Cologne – You don’t have to get on a plane to fly over the Rhine. This high-tech boat is sufficient for this. BILD tested the world’s fastest electric speedboat.

From the outside, the “Candela Speedboat” looks like an ordinary boat. But shortly after leaving the Rheinauhafen, the 7.70 meter long and 90 kilogram watercraft shows what it’s made of!

At the push of a button, Kristian Sloth Lauszus (27), the engineer of the Swedish Developer company Candela extend the wings under the fuselage. As a result, the entire boat hovers above the water surface while driving.

“This technology reduces the water resistance. This enables us to travel up to 60 kilometers quickly. The battery would be enough to travel 92 kilometers, ”says the engineer, while his boat is racing across the Rhine.

The day before, Kristian Sloth Lauszus raced from Düsseldorf to Cologne by boat: “It took us just under an hour. A conventional boat should have slowed down in the waves. But we fly over the waves without being hit by them. ”

The carbon boat can be recharged within four hours. The company plans to launch 30 such boats this year – for an impressive € 265,000 each.

Company spokesman Mikael Mahlberg: “Due to the economical energy consumption, the return trip between Cologne and Düsseldorf would only cost five euros. There will be no traffic jams along the way. “
