The electricity supplier Tinde Energi is shut down. Chief Executive Officer Raymond Henriksen confirms this to TV 2 late Wednesday evening.
– I think it’s boring and especially apologize to our many loyal customers who will now be left without an electricity supplier, says Henriksen.
He says there are several reasons management is now choosing to venture into the electricity market.
– Customers use the system
– Unfortunately, we found that both private customers and business customers took advantage of the electricity support scheme and drastically increased their electricity consumption while on a fixed price deal. We have several examples where charging clubs have been set up, people have set up large data servers against Bitcoin and some have even set up panel ovens on their terrace to use more electricity and thus profit from the electricity backing scheme.
Raymond Henriksen of Tinde Energi tells TV 2 that these factors, plus the fact that the company cannot request prepaid electricity, make it impossible to continue operating.
Company sanction
The Norwegian Consumer Protection Authority announced on December 2 that it would impose a NOK 3 million corporate fine on the company and the owner, Raymond Henriksen, a personal fine of NOK 400,000.
– It was originally intended for our corporate customers, but we have withdrawn the change to the terms, so the old terms apply, Henriksen said after the proposal became known.
Claimed customer energy support
The reason for the fees is that on Wednesday, November 30, Tinde Energi sent letters to several customers stating that the company will request payment of the state contribution for electricity that customers with a fixed price contract were to receive from the new year.
The changes to the terms will mean that customers with a fixed price contract of less than 70 øre per kilowatt hour – and who receive electricity support from the state through grid companies in months when the spot price averages above 70 øre – will have to pay this support to the power company.
In addition, the company has changed the conditions so that customers with a fixed price contract pay the spot price/full market price for consumption above 20,000 kWh/year for a single-family house and 8,000 kWh/year for an apartment.
Increased security requirements
In a letter sent to Tinde Energi customers late Wednesday evening, it is said that the company’s suppliers consider the risk to the company significantly greater and have therefore increased the security requirement. The company will not be able to meet this requirement.
– No later than January 4th
Tinde Energi will continuously interrupt the customer’s relationship with the company and deliveries by the company will end no later than January 4th.
Furthermore, in the electricity company’s letter, it is stated that the customer receives the obligatory delivery from the grid lessor where the state has regulated this as a spot price with a maximum of 6.25 øre as a markup.
No one will lose their job due to the closure of Tinde Energi.
