Jeddah: Electric passenger bus service started in Jeddah. The public transport authority has launched buses that can travel 300 km on a single charge for the passengers. The service was inaugurated at a ceremony held at Jeddah North Corniche.

These buses will soon start service on public transport routes on trial basis. With this, Jeddah will be the country’s first electric bus services to transport passengers on public transport routes. Electric buses are being operated to transport passengers to the airports. The authorities aim to protect the environment by putting buses that rely on clean energy on the roads.

These buses have been rolled out in collaboration with Saptico and Jufali Company. The routes to be serviced have not been specified. The service will be operated on specific routes for a fixed period of time. They are then propagated to all routes. Head of Public Transport Authority Rumaih Al Rumaih said that Jeddah has got a new experience today with the electric bus on the road.

Electric buses powered by clean energy will also start service in Riyadh next month to reduce road congestion and protect the environment. Electric buses are expected to help ease congestion in Jeddah. The trial will initially be for three to six months. The head of Public Transport Authority said that it will be fixed after evaluating the benefits.
