Details: The share of electric cars in the EU car market rose from 10.7% to 15.1% last month, overtaking diesel cars (13.4%). The largest growth was in the Netherlands (+90.1%), Germany (+64.4%) and France (+52%).

Thus, electric cars have become the third most popular type of car in the EU states – after hybrid electric cars, whose market share in June increased by a third and amounted to 254.1 thousand units, and gasoline cars (379 thousand, an increase of 11%).

Gasoline cars accounted for 36.3% of the market last month, respectively, while hybrids accounted for 24.3%.

In total, 5.4 million new cars were sold in the European Union in the first half of 2023. This is 17.9% more than a year ago, but 21% less than in the first half of 2019 – before the coronavirus pandemic.
