Drivers who have had a category B driving license for at least two years have gained new qualifications. According to the amendment to the act on electromobility, they can drive an electric vehicle with a maximum permissible weight of up to 4.25 tons, and not up to 3.5 tons as it was before.

It is about the act of 2 December amending the act on electromobility and alternative fuels and some other acts. The act was published in the Journal of Laws on December 9, and the regulations – with some exceptions – entered into force 14 days after their announcement.

Driving license, category B. Changes
The amendment stipulates that with a category B driving license, you can drive electric delivery vehicles weighing up to 4.25 t instead of 3.5 t. This is due to the additional weight of the battery. Importantly, drivers can benefit from this change as long as they have had a category B driving license for at least two years.

The Polish Alternative Fuels Association appealed for changes to the regulations. The organization pointed out that fleet operators wishing to stay below the 3.5 t regulatory threshold and operate a delivery vehicle with alternative propulsion in accordance with it, receive, in return, significantly reduced payload and cargo space. The battery of an electric delivery vehicle is heavier than its internal combustion counterpart.

The act also introduces changes to clean transport zones. Pursuant to the new regulations, zones may be established in all communes, regardless of the number of inhabitants. So far, this has only applied to municipalities with more than 100,000 inhabitants. residents.

According to the data of the Polish Automotive Industry Association and PSPA, at the end of November 2021, a total of 35,222 electric cars were registered in Poland. For eleven months of this year, their number increased by 16,629 units, i.e. by 101%. compared to the same period a year earlier.
