Commenting on the entry of Ioniq 5 into the top seven, Latvian jury representative and TVNET Auto editor Ingars Tenis says that this result was most likely achieved because the Korean electric car differed from the others both in terms of body design and interior. “Hyundai has been brave in creating such a vehicle, and it has paid off. The model, which is still rarely seen on the streets, fascinates in many aspects – the spacious interior, the advanced technological solutions and the very promising charging and driving distance indicators,” says a member of the Latvian Car of the Year jury. .

Technological advantages have become an important factor

The electric Hyundai Ioniq won praise in 5 competitions in other countries for its V2L (Vehicle2Load) technology, which allows you to charge not only various electrical devices, but even other cars from its battery. Experts appreciated this progress very much. For example, journalists from the popular British portal Carbuyer called the extravagant Ioniq 5 a model of a completely new generation with improvements in the most important areas for people. It is built on a special electric car platform, which gives it several significant advantages: a roomy interior in a relatively small body, a memorable design and a modern electric drive.

Before the Ioniq 5 hit the market, 800-volt charging was only possible in the almost twice as expensive Audi e-tron GT and Porsche Taycan, but now Hyundai drivers can use it too. The 800 V system allows you to use the most efficient fast stations with a power of up to 350 kW and charge the battery for 100 kilometers in five minutes. The 73 kWh battery can be charged from 10 to 80% in about 18 minutes, which is enough to drive at least 300 kilometers with a rear-wheel drive electric car.

Ioniq 5 is radically different from others

Explaining what could be the basis for the positive assessments of domestic and foreign experts, Raimonds Zandovskis, editor of Delfi Auto and representative of the Latvian Car of the Year jury, emphasizes that the Ioniq 5, first of all, attracts attention because it is significantly different from other electric predecessors and current competitors.

“Driving it feels like you’re in a completely different car than you’re used to. I also liked the practical V2L technology. I’ve seen videos of people mowing lawns with an electric lawnmower using the Ioniq 5 as a power source. Another Ioniq 5 owner demonstrated , how to prepare dinner for the children by connecting the electric stove to the car,” says Raimonds.

According to him, the Ioniq 5 has achieved so much international success precisely because it expands the boundaries of the use of an ordinary car, becoming something more than just a simple car. With the interesting design, technology, availability, interior minimalism, interior space and greater ground clearance, the South Korean manufacturer has hit the target – Hyundai has managed to appeal to a really wide audience.

“Therefore, neither families with children, nor fans of electric cars, nor businessmen, who are used to driving several times more expensive models, do not skimp on praise for this car. This proves once again that it is important for manufacturers to think about what the modern driver wants. It is not enough for him anymore simply with a car as a means of transportation, he expects something more,” sums up the journalist.
