If, at home, charging an electric car costs about 2.5 euros for 100 km, there are free charging solutions…
Main source, and rather fast: the manufacturer. Renault and Nissan offer terminals in their dealerships to their customers. Ditto at BMW and the brands of the Volkswagen group. On the Mercedes-Benz side, newer on the market, terminals are still rare… but their number is increasing.
In large areas, it is possible
Except that not everyone has a dealer downstairs… On the other hand, everyone goes to the supermarkets. If Ikea took advantage of the confinement to study the end of free charging stations, the Lidl supermarket chain is making the possibility of charging your car for free a commercial argument. The German brand currently has around 1,000 charging points in 300 car parks in its stores in France. It plans to double their number by the end of 2021 and is committed to green electricity. In addition, these will be widely equipped with 22 kW and 50 kW sockets in order to recharge more quickly.
Leroy-Merlin DIY stores are moving forward on the same trend and provide many free charging solutions, from the reinforced socket to the accelerated 22 kW terminal. The Carrefour group will also deploy more than 2,000 terminals by 2023. In addition to supercharger solutions – paying – installed in its service stations, each car park of the retail giant will have at least 10 spaces with a charging point . And customers with the loyalty card or the PASS Carrefour card will benefit from a free charging service for one hour at 22 kW, i.e. the time needed to reboost 50% of a ZOE or an e-208, or even 100% of a Twingo Electric.

Finally, Michel-Edouard Leclerc announced the installation of 5,000 terminals with two charging points at the end of 2022 in his centers, then a target of 10,000 by the end of 2025. One question remains, however: currently free, the terminals installed in car parks of 170 stores will they still be so when they are more widely available?
Lidl, Carrefour and other Leclerc offer charging solutions with different methods depending on the brand.
