(Elbil24): At the end of 2021, Tesla topped two generous lists, because not only did they have this year’s best-selling car model, with Model 3, but they also became this year’s best-selling car brand. This must be said to be a very good achievement, in all the time they strictly only have two models that sell.

Volkswagen and Toyota took the next two places among the car brands, despite the fact that they have far more salable models than Tesla’s two bestsellers.

The year 2021 was also a record year for zero-emission cars, where already at the end of November 109,592 zero-emission cars were registered in 2021 (figures from OFV). The figures for December are not yet clear, but Electric Car Statistics reports about 13,334 cars in December, which will give a total of approx. 122,500 zero-emission cars for the year as a whole. This is a sharp increase from the previous year, 79,789 new electric cars were registered. At the time, it was the Audi e-tron that topped the lists. In 2021, it was Tesla Model 3 that became this year’s bestseller, and Model Y was also not far from catching up with VW ID.4 at the end, despite the fact that Model Y first came on the market in August.

The electric cars take over

In the total list of the 20 best-selling cars, we actually find only three models that are not electric cars. These are the Toyota RAV4, Volvo XC60 and Toyota Corolla. Beyond this, there is clear dominance from electric cars, and there is likely to be an even larger share of electric cars in the coming year.

From Norway’s largest car importer, Harald A. Møller, it is predicted that we will have sales of electric cars in 2022 of over 170,000 cars.

It requires a further increase of close to 50 percent from 2021, and depends first and foremost on the delivery situation for a number of car models improving. For there is no doubt that the ongoing chip shortage has sharply reduced 2021 sales.

If this plug comes loose, it will trigger a ketchup effect of already ordered cars, which will come on top of the ordinary sales for 2022. In other words, the year we enter can be very positive when we talk about new car registrations.
