A combustion engine driver gets into an electric car for the first time. Instead of a short trip, you go directly on a long journey. He reveals on Facebook whether that’s going well.

For many combustion engine fans, the idea of going on a long drive in an electric vehicle is a nightmare. However, a Facebook user recently confronted his bias.

He drove to the mountains in an electric car to spend his vacation there. He has now shared his experiences in the Facebook group electric car electromobility. “If you want to have a say in the same regulars’ table discussions, you have to try it yourself,” he says, explaining his experiment.

With the Stromer from the Ruhrpott to a mountain holiday

The driver, who comes from the Ruhr area, made his way to the Black Forest with a Polestar 2. The journey was not without its challenges as the driver encountered a charging problem at a Fastned station in Limburg. However, with the help of an employee, the problem was rectified.

The rest of the trip went smoothly. The e-car newcomer reports that the Stromer had no problems even in mountainous terrain and even negotiated the serpentines with ease.

In fact, the vehicle only lost three percent of its battery power when driving uphill, two of which were recuperated after the descent. Charging was also possible without any problems, as even many of the remote Vesperhütten had charging facilities. There was a wall box in the holiday accommodation.

Many of the snack huts offered charging facilities.

Back at his combustion engine, the e-car newcomer feels “like Fred Flintstone”

The driver’s conclusion about his experience with the electric car was consistently positive. Overall, the ride felt relaxed.

Driving with just one pedal was also a highlight. Back in his combustion engine he felt “like Fred Flintstone”.

The holiday report found a lot of approval in the comment column. Another Facebook user explains: “Same here: After the test drive with the MG5, you really felt like you were in the Middle Ages in the ‘old’ combustion engine (Astra K ST, almost fully equipped, BJ 2018). The calm, very pleasant and intuitive driving with an e-car (“One-Pedal-Driving”) is remembered very quickly.”

What is striking about the Polestar driver’s report and the comment is the speed at which the Stromer were able to convince. So there is still hope that even long-established combustion engine fans will be enthusiastic about e-cars.

The holiday accommodation was also equipped with a wall box.
