The Innovation Policies Committee held its first meeting chaired by Dr. Ayman Ashour Minister of Higher Education and scientific research, in the presence of Dr. Walaa Sheta, CEO of the Science, Technology and Innovation Funding Authority, Dr. Diaa Abdel-Meguid, Executive Director of the Innovators and Geniuses Fund, and Dr. Hisham Hadara, Advisor to the Minister for Innovation; To discuss setting national policies for sustainable innovation, and linking scientific research and universities with industry, at the Ministry’s headquarters.

At the beginning of the meeting, Dr. Ayman Ashour emphasized that the Egyptian state attaches utmost importance to supporting innovation and entrepreneurship, linking the research product to industry, directing scientific research to serve society, and facing challenges facing economic growth, in order to achieve the country’s sustainable development goals (Egypt’s Vision 2030), referring to The importance of the societal and service role of higher education institutions in the fields of industry.

The minister pointed out the importance of cooperation with economists and the private sector, pointing to the cooperation protocol signed between Science and Technology Funding Authority Al-Ibtikar and Al-Arabi for Engineering Industries and Fresh Electric for home appliances; With the aim of transferring, localizing and developing mold manufacturing technology in Egypt, noting that work is also underway to manufacture the first Egyptian electric car, in cooperation between the private sector and the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology, as this car will be completed within 6 months from now..

Ayman Ashour stressed the importance of motivating and supporting innovators and entrepreneurs, enhancing communication with the innovative community, discovering and supporting young innovators from Egyptian universities, to implement new and advanced projects that will have an impact on the local and international market, through the launch of the Discovery of Innovators and Entrepreneurs Program in universities, within the framework of Encourage linking the outputs of scientific research with the concerned authorities in the country to convert them into outputs that serve the national economy.

The minister pointed out that the Innovators and Talents Care Fund offers many initiatives and projects. To help innovators and creators find the most powerful ideas that can be adopted and transferred to startup companies; With the aim of graduating entrepreneurs and innovators to contribute to building the national economy and developing the local and international market.

Dr. explained. Ashour said that the principle of entrepreneurship and innovation is one of the basic principles that the national strategy for higher education and scientific research focused on, as a road map that outlines its features during the coming period to achieve “Egypt’s Vision 2030.” He explained that this principle aims to transform educational institutions into innovative institutions that contribute to attracting Distinguished scientific cadres, and building a strong ecosystem that contributes to its development.

During the meeting, the minister appreciated the role of the “Ibda'” initiative in developing the Egyptian industry.
