Statistics say that 60% of all car trips in the United States are less than 10 km. This makes the idea of switching to electric vehicles reasonable, but even more valuable will be the practice of switching to electric bicycles and mopeds, as is common in Asian countries. The growing global trend towards electric micromobility is greatly reducing the demand for oil and promises to continue to gain momentum.

Experts estimate that last year there were more than 20 million electric vehicles and 1.3 million commercial electric vehicles (buses, vans and trucks) on the world’s roads. At the same time, there were 280 million two- and three-wheeled electric vehicles – mopeds, scooters, motorcycles and bicycles. According to the estimate Bloomberg New Energy Financethe reported amount of micromobility has already reduced oil demand by 1% of total global oil demand, or one million barrels per day.
Riding an electric bike 20 km a day, five times a week, costs about $20 a year. Charging an electric vehicle and maintaining it will cost much more. Moreover, despite all the clean operation of an electric vehicle, its maintenance and charging are indirectly accompanied by carbon emissions, which in the case of electric bicycles or mopeds will be significantly lower.
Finally, buying electric micromobility means is affordable for a much larger circle of people than purchasing an expensive electric car. And even if you already own an electric car, it makes sense to consider switching to a small electric vehicle for short-distance travel for a variety of reasons, from shopping to commuting to work or school, weather, location and time permitting. This will benefit both the consumer’s wallet and the environment.
According to American researchers, for example, if the number of trips on electric bicycles increases to 11% of the total number of trips by car, then emissions from transport will be reduced by about 7%, which means cleaner air and cost savings.
