Elections in Mexico: 66 candidates executed in 6 months, gangs “vote” by blood

It is not an electoral campaign but a massacre! Mexicans must go to the polls on June 6 to elect at the same time their deputies, their governors and their mayors, among others, but the blood of candidates of all stripes is already flowing abundantly: in just a little over six months, or since last September, no less than 66 politicians have been murdered in cold blood, according to a completely official report.

You don’t have to be an expert in the recurring violence in this vast country to know who is responsible for the organized and perfectly targeted massacre. It bears the signature of the very many gangs who terrorize the Mexican population, and their main sponsors, the infamous drug cartels ; the latter number a dozen to establish their own law through violence and corruption, including within the security forces and of course in the political sphere.

Targeted killings become so systematic in the run-up to general elections that the current government symbolically denounces a “crime party”. Rosa Rodriguez, in charge of security and civil protection within the executive, could not be clearer:

At least seven states in Mexico are particularly bloody: those ofOaxaca, of Guanajuato, Veracruz, Guerrero, Morelos, of Baja california and of Jalisco.
