Five largest cities of Georgia, according to preliminary results of the second round of municipal elections, will be headed by representatives of the ruling party Georgian Dream – Democratic Georgia… This is evidenced by the data of the Central Election Commission of the country, published on the night of Sunday, October 31.

So, after processing ballots from 97% of polling stations in Tbilisi, the current mayor of the Georgian capital, Kakha Kaladze, gains 55.6% of the vote, while his opponent, a member of the opposition party United national movement Nika Melia receives 44.4% of the vote.

In Batumi, Kutaisi, Poti and Rustavi, mayoral candidates from Georgian dream:

  • in Batumi, data were processed from 22.9% of sites – Archil Chikovani is in the lead (53.3%);

  • in Kutaisi ballots were counted from 25.8% of polling stations – Iosif Khakhaleishvili wins (51.5%);

  • in Poti, data from more than 51% of polling stations were processed – the leader is Beka Vacharadze (58%);

  • in Rustavi ballots were counted from 43% of polling stations – Nino Latsabidze is in the lead (54%).

A similar situation has developed in 14 small towns. At the same time, the only settlement where the representative of the oppositional force wins is the city of Tsalendzhikha – here Georgy Kharchilava is in the lead with 51.2% of the votes.

Reportedly, the turnout in the second round of local elections in Georgia at the time of the closure of polling stations was 49.09%.

Recall, on the eve of the residents of Georgia in the second round of local elections elected mayors of 20 municipalities and deputies to local assemblies in 24 majoritarian districts.

The elections in Georgia were held against the backdrop of a scandal with detention of former President Mikheil Saakashvili, who, being wanted, secretly arrived in the country, awaiting the victory of his party United national movement… Saakashvili is now under arrest.
