Elections for the 7th Legislative Council were held in Hong Kong – 2024-04-02 06:50:13

/ world today news/ On December 10, Hong Kong held elections for the 7th Legislative Council. They are the first in the special administrative region after the introduction of the principle of “patriotic governance” and changes to the electoral system. 176 representatives in the Legislative Council and 88 members in the district councils were elected.

Election Commission Chairman Lok Kai-hong told media that 1.19 million voters participated in the voting and the election process itself went smoothly. The Legislative Council of Hong Kong consists of 470 representatives whose mandate is four years. Among them are members of patriotic organizations and professional groups. Their election platforms are tailored to the realities of their constituencies, while taking into account the development of Hong Kong as a whole and in the long term, Lok Kai-hong also said.
