Election of the delegates of the Leisure Center, Wednesday 28 September »Economic and political newsletter of the PACA

Elections for the delegates of the Recreation Center, Wednesday 28 September at 2:00 pm

As part of the partnership approach and the child-friendly city label awarded to the city of Toulon by UNICEF, the young Toulonnais enrolled for the year in the 11 municipal recreation centers will elect their representatives on Wednesday 28 September. A real initiation into democracy that is part of the “Children’s Words” system.
Like the greats! Like their parents, they will vote. For some of them just registered in the Toulon leisure centers, this will be a big news. For the elderly, already experts in the electoral system, it will be almost a routine formality. This will not prevent an effervescence and a certain commotion in the 11 elementary centers affected by these elections.
Intended to designate the representatives who will bring their wishes, needs or plans to the city council, these elections will have nothing to envy to local and national ballots. From the height of their 6 to 11 years, the minots of the Rade have spent the last few weeks organizing this vote: the most daring have applied, the boy-female couples have been composed to respect parity. They consulted their little companions, wrote their professions of faith with the help of various animators.
Each of them will put their ballot in the ballot box under the eyes of the scrutineers. After the last budding voter has passed, the polling stations will proceed to count and then announce the names of the delegates elected for this year 2022 – 2023. Next step, a reception in the town hall, in the solemn council chamber which will take place at the end of October.
These elections are a real initiation into democracy carried out as part of the partnership initiative City friend of children and the “Children’s Words” system established in 2013 to promote children’s participation. 22 children, delegates and substitutes, are elected by classmates for a mandate that lasts the period of the school year.
The role of these delegates is to collect the views of children enrolled in summer camps and to express their views on various issues. Through regular exchanges with elected members of the city council, they plan and implement projects around sustainable development, heritage or solidarity. The objective of this device is to introduce children between the ages of 6 and 11 to democracy, to promote citizenship and the involvement of young people in the life of the city.
