The current members of the Superior Council of the Judiciary will end their mandate this year. A new election will be organized on October 20 throughout the island, within the courts and tribunals, at the level of the chancellery, the National School of Magistrates and Registries as well as at the level of detachment and training . Only magistrates in activity on the date of the elections will be authorized to participate in the vote next October. However, the application is not accessible to all practicing magistrates. According to a decree published by the Ministry of Justice which established the organization of the election of magistrate members of the higher council of the judiciary, magistrates who have completed at least eight years of effective service within the judiciary will be eligible. They must also be of “good moral character”, that is to say “having never been convicted or subject to disciplinary sanction”. The mandate of each member is three years and “is not immediately renewable”.
