Dessau –
The CDU in Dessau-Roßlau was the first party in the twin towns to put up a candidate for the mayoral election in 2021: At an open-air event in the courtyard of the Dessau provost church “St. Peter and Paul”, CDU parliamentary group leader Eiko Adamek was nominated on Saturday. The 47-year-old received 40 of the 43 possible votes at the general assembly. There was no opponent.
The CDU actually wanted to hold the nomination event on November 2nd. Due to the corona, this had to be canceled. When asked by the regional election committee, the CDU was informed that nominations can only be carried out as a face-to-face event. In the end, the decision was made to have this take place open air with a strict hygiene concept.
Eiko Adamek has been a member of the CDU Dessau-Roßlau and city council since 2014
Adamek has been a member of the CDU in Dessau-Roßlau since 2014 and is also a city councilor. At the end of 2015 he was elected parliamentary group leader and at that time succeeded Jens Kolze. Adamek is married and has two children. He is the kitchen manager in the municipal clinic.
“I don’t want to watch this city continue to sell under value,” said Adamek in his introductory speech. He wants to change, act instead of reacting, promote, demand and develop instead of handling. He had worked out his position in politics himself. “I don’t owe anyone a favor, I have no legacy.”
Dessau-Roßlaus’ new mayor will be elected on June 6, 2021. Incumbent Peter Kuras (FDP) has so far left it open whether he will run again.
Kuras prevailed in the runoff election in 2014 against the then incumbent Klemens Koschig. At that time the lawyer Stefan Exner stood for the CDU. The Christian Democrat won 17.58 percent in the first ballot and came in third behind Kuras (42.39 percent) and Koschig (22.62 percent). (mz / sb)
