elected officials “ready” to open a vaccination center

The vaccination campaign for people aged 75 and over began on January 18. In Moselle, around ten centers are operational, including two in Thionville: the Bel-Air hospital and the Notre-Dame clinic. Hundreds of people have already received their first injection, a pace dictated by the number of doses available. But in addition to stock management, it is the territorial grid drawn by the ARS (Regional Health Agency) that generates frustration among local elected officials. Which note an imbalance between regions and living areas.

A “territorial inequity”, in the words of Pierre Cuny, which is reflected in the figures: when Moselle has ten vaccination centers, Meuse has twelve and Meurthe-et-Moselle… eighteen! For a smaller demographic …

Healthcare professionals ready to help

At the local level, imbalances persist. There are no centers in the Fensch Valley (75,000 inhabitants), while 7,600 people over 75 live in this area. The president of the agglomeration community Michel Liebgott, made it known twice to the ARS. With other elected officials, he shares the wish to open a vaccination site in one of his municipalities. “We are ready,” he says. Three primary care teams (ESP) and several health professionals are on the alert, in conjunction with the staff of the CHR. “We are able to perform a reasonable number of daily vaccinations,” says Michel Liebgott.

It remains to identify a place to welcome it. At Hayange hospital, as he suggests, or elsewhere? Fabien Engelmann indicates that he would make the communal hall of the Molitor (550 m²) available if necessary.

Asked, the ARS did not respond to our requests.
