An elderly woman in China went to the hospital to undergo eye surgery, where the doctor administered local anesthesia to her.
The 82-year-old patient, speaking with a local dialect, was unable to understand the doctor’s warnings during surgery, and in response, the surgeon punched her at least three times in the head.
The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) reported that the horrific incident occurred in a hospital in the Chinese region of Zhejiang, and the entire incident was recorded on a surveillance camera and shared on the Chinese social media platform recently. Weibo
The video went viral after it was shared on Chinese social media platforms.
The hospital said in a statement that the patient underwent anesthesia during the surgery, but she could not bear it, and continued to move her head and eyeballs during the surgery and could not understand the doctor’s warnings, as the patient was speaking in a local dialect.
The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) reported, citing the hospital, that the doctor “dealt with the patient harshly.”
“During the operation, due to local anesthesia, the patient was suffering from surgical intolerance so she tried to touch her eyes. The area near the eyes is a sterile surgical area. Once touched, it may cause infection, and the doctor wants to avoid the risk,” this stated in a statement.
The New York Post reported that local authorities reported that the woman suffered bruises on her forehead.
After the massive anger of social media users, the hospital’s parent group suspended Al-Jarrah and fired the hospital’s CEO this week.
The hospital apologized to the elderly woman and gave her compensation of 500 yuan, but the woman’s son claimed that she was blind in her left eye, but there are no medical reports indicating that the cause was the accident.
