Elderly Woman Dies Due to Dispute over Ambulance Charges: Negligence by Ambulance Driver

Paravur: Due to a dispute over ambulance charges, an elderly woman died due to delay in being taken to the hospital. In death Taluk Govt. The ambulance driver was suspended following the complaint.

Asma’s grandson K.A. Manaf, Ward Member V.A. Tajuddin filed a complaint with the hospital superintendent. Asma was brought to the taluk hospital on Tuesday morning due to high fever. As the disease worsened, the hospital authorities directed him to be taken to Ernakulam General Hospital. According to the complaint, the patient was taken in the hospital’s ambulance, but the driver told him that he would only take the car rental fee of Rs 900. At this time, the companions did not have any money. He said that he can give it after delivering the patient, but the driver refused. Half an hour later, after reaching Nendur’s house, the driver took the money and gave it to the driver, and the driver was ready to take the patient to the general hospital.

Asma died within minutes of reaching the hospital. Relatives alleged that the reason for the death was the delay in transportation due to financial constraints.
