Food delivery to the homes of elderly people in need of care is at a standstill, says the Progress Party.
– This is highway robbery with the municipality’s blessing, says Julianne Ofstad from Oslo Frp.
Nettavisen recently revealed that the elderly have to pay sky-high prices for food delivered to their homes.
Storting representative for Rødt, Mimir Kristjansson, thinks Nettavisen’s revelation is outrageous.
– Demented people must be confident that the municipality makes sure that they get food at a reasonable price. They should not be afraid of the taxi meter going off, says Kristjansson.
He has a clear message for the leader of the Oslo city council, Raymond Johansen.
– Raymond, you must sort things out and take responsibility!

Got sky high bills
It was Ragnhild Halseth and her partner Espen Nagvik who told about the sky-high prices. Ragnhild’s father has dementia and received help from the municipality to order food home. The bills came to around NOK 10,000 a month.
– As the price-conscious Sunnmoer that I am, I was shocked. That he should pay 65.39 for a pack of cooked ham of 110 grams is disgusting, says Halseth.
More than double the price
Here is Nettavisen’s price check for ten common food items. On several of the items, the price is more than double.
Nettavisen’s random samples showed that many of the food items at Matleveranser.no are twice as expensive as at Oda, Kiwi and Rema 1000. For example, a pack of Wiener sausages at Matleveranser costs NOK 141.41. At Oda, the price is 64.90.
– I believe the district has a responsibility to inform relatives thoroughly and to have solutions that do not cost the shirt, says Ragnhild Halseth to Nettavisen.
The family also responded that the municipality had poor control over the orders. The father thus received food bills of around NOK 10,000 a month. This despite the fact that he ate at a dementia center four times a week.

– It is hair-raising that the district does not have a better system in 2023. It is the consumers with the least resources who are affected by this, says Ragnhild Halseth.

– Oslo kommune must take responsibility
– The politicians must take responsibility for the elderly getting food delivered to their homes without having to pay the blood price, says representative from Rødt, Mimir Kristjansson.
He does not think that the company that sells and delivers goods should be blamed. He believes the company that says the service costs. The company takes orders over the phone, delivers food and helps put goods in fridges and drawers.
– It is not right for the public to allow this private company to take responsibility for the elderly getting food delivered to their homes.
He believes that the municipality itself should be able to organize a better food delivery.
– Oslo municipality is a major player. They should be able to ensure purchases and reasonable prices for the elderly who depend on ordering food, says Kristjansson.

– The elderly are almost deceived
– Here the municipality has recommended the elderly to use Matleveranser.no. It’s almost as if the elderly are being tricked into buying goods at sky-high prices, says Julianne Ofstad from Oslo Frp.
She reacts strongly to the fact that the elderly and relatives are not made aware of the high food prices.
– A minimum is that they give the elderly and their relatives proper information about the sky-high prices, says Ofstad.

She now demands an answer from the City Council.
– I think the city council needs to survey how many elderly people there are who pay the blood price for the food they get home, and how great the need is for home delivery. They must also answer what they want to do with the food order in the future. The elderly deserve better services than this, says Ofstad.
– We are looking at it
Nettavisen has asked city council leader Raymond Johansen to comment on the matter. He has forwarded it to Marthe Scharning Lund, city councilor for health, elderly and citizen services in Oslo.
In an email to Nattavisen, she writes:
– I fully understand that this can be difficult. Some elderly people do not have the opportunity to order food digitally, and those who work in the home service are not allowed to help pay with a bank ID, writes Lund.
– The home service must therefore use a supplier where it is possible to call in orders and then receive an invoice, she writes.
According to Lund, the municipality knows of only one supplier that offers this option.
– We are now looking at whether there is more Oslo municipality can do to make food ordering easier and better for elderly people living at home, writes Lund.
– The problem related to bank ID and the limitation that lies in it must be solved nationally, but my responsibility is to look at how we can facilitate a system that works as best as possible for Oslo’s population. Of course, I take that seriously, she writes.
