Elderly Married Couple Found Dead from Gunshot Wounds in Kristiansund

A man and a woman in their 70s were found dead from gunshot wounds in Kristiansund on Friday. The two were married to each other, the police said.

– The police are investigating this case broadly, and we are keeping several hypotheses open, but so far there is no indication that other people have been involved in the incident. At the present time, we are not looking for an unknown perpetrator, said police inspector Ove Brudevoll in the Møre and Romsdal police district at a press conference on Friday evening.

The police received a report at just after 3.30pm that there was a seriously injured person outside a detached house in central Kristiansund.

– The police went to the address armed, and we then found a woman in her 70s outside the house. The woman was badly injured, and the injuries were consistent with gunshot wounds. The woman was taken to Kristiansund hospital by ambulance, and it was determined after a short time that she was dead, says Brudevoll.

Firearm found

A further dead person was found during a search of the house. This was a man in his 70s, and he too had injuries consistent with gunshot wounds.

The police have found firearms in the house.

The two deceased were married to each other, and both lived in the house.

Crisis team

The investigation into the case continues into the evening.

– Witness interviews are being conducted, inquiries are being made in the neighbourhood, we are examining electronic traces, and not least there is quite extensive forensic work to be done at the scene, says the police inspector.

The next of kin have been notified.

– These are taken care of by the crisis team in Kristiansund municipality, and the police have also appointed a next of kin contact who will take care of the next of kin in the best possible way, says Brudevoll.

Mayor Kjell Neergaard (Ap) in Kristiansund municipality refers to the case as a terrible tragedy.

– It’s a small society we live in, where most people know most people. I also knew them well. My thoughts this evening of course go to the children and grandchildren who received this terrible news this afternoon, he adds The daily newspaper.
