An 80-year-old man from Styria was tied up and robbed by four perpetrators in his own house in Seiersberg-Pirka south of Graz on Wednesday night. The men with foreign accents were after the senior’s cash and also attacked him with punches before tying him up. Ultimately, the attackers fled with little booty, according to a police broadcast on Thursday.
Brutal attack in Graz
The senior was watched by the masked perpetrators on Wednesday around 1.30 a.m. while going to the toilet at night in his own house, where he lives alone. Police say it’s still unclear how they got into the house. The strangers waited for the pensioner in front of the toilet and beat him as soon as he came out. They then dragged him into the bedroom, threw him onto the bed, and handcuffed both his hands and feet. They also covered their victim’s head.
They then demanded cash in broken German. He then led them to a small amount of cash, but the criminals were apparently not satisfied with that. So they wrapped the 80-year-old in a blanket and carried him to another room. There they asked for cash again, but the Styrian said he didn’t have any more. Finally they left the man tied up and slightly injured and locked the room.
Pensioner frees himself from shackles
While the robbers made off, the senior was able to free himself from his bonds. Since he was locked in and the window was about ten feet up, he tied several ties in the room and abseiled out the window. Then he ran to neighbors who eventually called the police, police spokesman Markus Lamb told APA.
According to the victim, the four men had a dark complexion and are 1.75 to 1.85 meters tall. One was a bit taller and more corpulent, another wore glasses with dark frames. All four had covered their faces with a cloth up to their noses. They wore dark clothing and were apparently unarmed. The robber investigators from the Styrian State Criminal Police Office have taken over the investigation. Information from the population is requested by calling 059133/60-3333.
