A 75-year-old from Klagenfurt transferred several thousand euros to fraudsters in order to claim an alleged inheritance in France. This is what the scammers fooled the pensioner into by email and messenger messages. The man’s bank advisor advised him to report the crime.
The scammers contacted the 75-year-old from Klagenfurt in February 2022 using different identities via email and messenger service. They made him believe that he could inherit from a dying woman in France. In order for him to accept this inheritance, he had to transfer money, which the man did.
Fraudsters submitted fake documents
The scammers posed as French lawyers and sent the victim false documents in order to get him to make further payments. The 75-year-old only became suspicious at the beginning of February 2023. His bank advisor advised him to report the crime. The man transferred a five-digit euro amount in total.
