One of the two elderly Israeli women who were released by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) yesterday, Monday, said that she and her fellow prisoners received good treatment by the movement’s fighters, who were friendly with them, took care of their needs, and provided them with the necessary medical care.
The elderly woman, Yochved Lifshitz (85 years old), revealed in a press conference in an Israeli hospital that the Palestinian resistance members who detained her and other prisoners reassured them that they would not harm them, and provided them with food and drink during their detention.
She said, “They told us that they believe in the Qur’an, that they will not harm us, and that they will treat us as they treat those around them.”
She continued, “A doctor would come to us every few days to follow up on our condition. He was keen to provide us with medicines, and we would eat bread with white cheese and cucumber, just like they ate.”
In response to a question directed to her about why she shook hands with the Palestinian resistance members who accompanied her and another elderly woman during her release, she replied that she did so because they “treated her and the rest of the prisoners well and took care of all their needs.”
Abu Ubaida, spokesman for the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, announced yesterday, Monday, that the brigades had, through Egyptian and Qatari mediation, released the two detainees, Nurit Yitzhak and Yochved Lifshitz, for humanitarian reasons after the Israeli occupation had previously refused to receive them.
The Al-Qassam Brigades broadcast a video of the process of releasing the two detainees, while Abu Ubaida confirmed that their release yesterday evening, Monday, was for compelling humanitarian and medical reasons, despite the occupation committing more than 8 violations of the procedures that were agreed upon with the mediators to be adhered to during the handover of the two detainees.
