In Finland, an elderly driver received a very severe speeding ticket. Anders Wiklof, 76, was fined 121,000 euros.
Wykloff received the huge fine in the mail, reports Finnish newspaper Nya Aland. He was driving at 82 km/h in a place where the speed limit is 50 km/h. His driver’s license was also suspended for 10 days.
Although it was caught by a speed camera at only 32 km/h from above, the fine is so high because the driver has a very high income. The businessman is one of the richest people in Finland. In Finland, the amount of the speeding fine is determined by the driver’s income. The fine for this violation is equivalent to the income for 14 days, in this case – 121,000 euros.
This is not the first speeding ticket for Wykloff, who made his fortune in logistics, transportation, real estate and tourism. In 2013, the millionaire paid 95,000 euros to the Traffic Police, five years later he received a receipt for 63,680 euros. After his latest fine, the businessman told Finnish journalists that “maybe there should be an upper limit on the fine” for speeding. He was surprised when the speed limit suddenly dropped from 70 km/h to 50 km/h.
Wilkoff says he regrets the incident and hopes the money will do good work in the health care system through state coffers.
Finland is not the only country where fines are determined according to the offender’s income. It is the same in Switzerland. In 2010, a 37-year-old Swede was fined 679,000 euros there. He was driving at 290 km/h in a 120 km/h limit. His Mercedes SLS AMG was confiscated.
