According to Nikkei Chinese website, statistics released by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications of Japan on the 17th show that the number of employed people over 65 years old will increase by 30,000 in 2022 compared with 2021, reaching 9.12 million. This number set a new record since 1968. The declining birthrate and aging population have led to a decrease in Japan’s working-age population, and the elderly labor force has filled the manpower gap. The proportion of elderly people in the total number of employed people increased by 0.1 percentage point from 2021 to 13.6%, a record high. This is equivalent to approximately 1 elderly person for every 7 employed people.
