Elderly Couple Killed in Hit-and-Run in Bekasi, Suspect Allegedly a TNI Member

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – An elderly couple (elderly) Sonder Simbolon (72) and Tiurmaida (65) died after being hit by a car on Jalan Raya Kampung Sawah, Jati Murni, Pondok Melati, Bekasi, Thursday (4/5/2023) morning.

The victim’s son, Rendra Falentino Simbolon (45) said that the perpetrator immediately ran away after hitting his parents.

An ojol driver tried to catch up with the perpetrator who was driving the gray Nissan X-Trail, but failed because the perpetrator was traveling very fast.

Eyewitnesses at the location then focused on helping the victims who apparently could not be saved.

“So, local residents focused on the victim, from there he (the Nissan X-Trail driver) ran (ran away), but when he ran there was an ojol who chased him but couldn’t,” said Rendra.

The family confirmed that they would take legal action.

“Incidentally, one of our families works as a lawyer and he will escort this case to the police,” he said.

The perpetrators are suspected of being members of the TNI

Rendra suspects that the perpetrators of the hit-and-run were members of the TNI.

This suspicion was strengthened by the arrival of people who claimed to be army soldiers to the victim’s residence.

The three men who claimed to be members of the TNI Military Police Detachment (Denpom) asked Rendra to witness his parents’ accident.

“Earlier a Denpom party came to me, asked to come as a victim witness. Declared himself (from Denpom), then we exchanged numbers as well,” said Rendra.

However, Rendra did not know when he would be questioned.
