This Thursday evening (8) took place the Game Awards, an award considered the “Oscar of games” due to its relevance in the gaming industry. In addition to honoring the best titles of the year, the TGA is still the stage for major announcements from major studios such as Capcom, Blizzard Entertainment and Bandai Namco.
In the most eagerly awaited category of the evening, Game of the Year, the statuette was won by Elden Ring, by FromSoftware, released in February.
On Metacritic, a site that collects reviews of games, films and other entertainment products, the title has a score of 96 out of 100. Since its launch, Elden Ring has sold more than 17 million copies, and is currently the most popular multi- Japanese platform game history sold.
In addition to Game of the Year, the award was also marked by several announcements of games which, for the most part, will be released in 2023. Check out the main ones:
New Street Fighter 6 characters
Capcom’s next title was headlined during The Game Awards’ opening show, with a new trailer revealing four new characters in the franchise: Dee Jay, Manon, Marisa, and JP. In the presentation video you can get an overview of the most recent additions to Street Fighter 6. Also, it seems that the game will have several mini-games and the title will also feature a single player campaign.
Street Fighter 6 arrives on June 2, 2023 for PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
Hades 2
One of the biggest surprises of the evening was the announcement of Hades 2, sequel to the game of the same name, released in 2020. The title was a success, and in addition to winning over the public it also attracted the attention of critics – Hades is became the first story game to win a Hugo Award, which honors the best works of science fiction and fantasy.
Now, the first sequel from the Supergiant Games studio will have a female protagonist, and always following the roguelike style.
No release date has been announced, but it was said at The Game Awards that Hades 2 will get Early Access later in 2023.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor
The next title in the series Star Wars it will arrive on March 17 next year, but people are already eagerly awaiting what is to come.
At the TGA, a new trailer showcased gameplay from Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, which takes place five years after the Fallen Order and follows the new adventures of Cal Kestis. The game will be released for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC.
Death Stranding 2
Another announcement that no one expected: the sequel to Death Stranding was announced during the TGA, with an interview with Hideo Kojima, creator of the game.
DS2 will have the return of some actors from the original title, but according to Kojima it will be bigger and better and, like its predecessor, will be available only for PlayStation (this time the 5th, of the new generation).
The release date has not been announced.
Devil 4
Titled after a presentation by Halsey before the trailer debuted, Diablo IV finally got a release date: June 6, 2023 we will follow the story centered on Lilith, Queen of Hell, as she returns to Sanctuary.
Diablo IV will be released for PC, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Playstation 4 and Playstation 5 in three editions.
Final Fantasy XVI
The new trailer for the next game in the Final Fantasy series closed the announcements of The Game Awards.
In the launch video, Clive Rosfield can be seen transforming into Ifrit, confirming fan theories.
The trailer also shows a lot of what the gameplay of the game will be like and how the death of Joshua, Clive’s brother, will change it forever. Final Fantasy XVI arrives on June 22, 2023 for PlayStation 5.
Brazil in eSports
In this year’s edition of The Game Awards, Brazil shone in two of the three esports categories.
The LOUD organization won the Best Esports Team with its VALORANT team: this year, LOUD was the world champion of the modality and was the only Brazilian to be nominated in the TGA e-sports categories.
In addition, the coach who led the team to victory, Matheus “bzka” Tarasconi, also won in the Best Esports Coach category.
