Ever since the launch of Elden Ring, players have wondered what the deal is with the massive amphitheaters in the game world. Many have speculated that they would eventually host their own multiplayer matches, and now FromSoftware has finally confirmed the rumors.
In a new trailer – which you can watch above – publisher Bandai Namco has unveiled an expansion called the Free Colosseum Update. As the name suggests, this will be completely free for everyone who owns the Elden Ring and is scheduled to launch today, i.e. December 7th.
Article continues below the Twitter message.
According to the trailer description, the Colosseum update will open up the arenas of Limgrave, Leyendell, and Caelid. Here, players can measure their strength against each other, in different modes.
Among these are duels between two players, a variant where everyone beats everyone and a team mode. It will also be possible to summon Spirit Ashes to fight each other. Almost like real Pokemon battles, this one.
The fact that FromSoft suddenly releases Elden Ring downloadable content the day before the Game Awards has created a lot of discussions on the internet. Many hoped that the developer would get the Coliseum announcement out of the way so that new and bigger Elden Ring news could be revealed at the show.
Whether that’s true or not, we’ll see it at 01:30 on Friday night when The Game Awards kicks off.
