Elden Ring breaks sales records in a stunning way

According to the magazine Gamesindustry.biz With its digital and physical sales in England, Elden Ring became the biggest Red Dead Redemption 2 title in its first week, not counting the traditional annual blockbusters Call of Duty and FIFA. This means, among other things, that the games sold about 2.5 times more than the Horizon Forbidden West games during its first week (at the same time, HFW was relegated to second place in the sales rankings last week, with a drop in sales of 80%). We last saw similar sales numbers in October 2018 (when the aforementioned game Red Dead Redemption 2 was released). At the same time, these are better sales in the first week than the recent blockbuster Cyberpunk 2077 or Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.

According to GSD, the digital and physical sales of the game in the first week fell under the following platforms:

  1. PlayStation 5 (32%)
  2. PC (30%)
  3. Xbox (29%)
  4. PlayStation 4 (9%)

The ratios of digital sales to physical sales are also interesting: overall, games were sold 68% in digital form, which was ensured mainly by Xbox and PC platforms: on the Xbox it accounted for 86% of sales, while on the PC it accounted for 73%. For both generations of PlayStation consoles, about half of the customers opted for the physical version of the game.

Unfortunately, the PC version of the game suffers from technical problems, which manifest themselves differently for different users (someone plays almost without complications and someone is practically unable to play). Unfortunately, the sad truth is that Japanese games often don’t work best on a PC platform. The game did not avoid certain problems on the consoles, but in most cases there are only occasional drops of fluency (however, as with older FromSoftware games, it is necessary to manually end the game to the main menu before turning off the console, otherwise there is a risk of losing data ). But as reviewers’ testimonials, record sales of the game and its constant “trending” on social networks (especially Twitter) show, we are dealing with one of the most significant games of recent years, which will most likely override the rules of open world games.
