Elda incorporates in her street map the names of 15 outstanding women in local history

The mayor of Elda has indicated that “after a period of reflection and the excellent work carried out by the departments of Equality and Historical Memory, we are going to incorporate the name of 15 women into the street map of our city. Currently, more than500 streets that Elda has, 214 correspond to men and only ten to women. And, of them, except one, none is from our city. “

Rubén Alfaro has stated that the illustrious women of Elda who will give name to 15 streets are:Natalia Tendero(first woman councilor in the democratic period),Magdalena Maestre(first president of a group of Moors and Christians),Lolita Miralles(businesswoman and first woman who was part of the Association of Footwear Entrepreneurs in Elda),Maria Perni(midwife from 1909 to 1954),Manolita Candel(nurse),Élia Barceló(writer),Otilia Cutillas(footwear businesswoman),Milagros Maestre(aparadora and president of the Classrooms of the Third Age),Antonia Maymón(teacher of the Modern School from 1918 to 1931),Josefina Ferrándiz(teacher from 1932 to 1934),Aurita González(militant of the neighborhood movement) andMaruja Ycardo(nurse and poet).
