Stephan El Shaarawy back strengthening Italian national team and for the first time scored a pair of goals. This is the fruit of El Shaarawy’s patience.
El Shaarawy scored twice in Italy’s 6-0 win over Moldova. In the trial match that took place at the Artemio Franchi, Firenze, Thursday (8/10/2020) in the morning WIB, El Shaarawy appeared 66 minutes.
Prior to this match, El Shaarawy last wore a Gli Azzurri shirt in November 2019. He played 15 minutes as Italy beat Bosnia-Herzegovina in a European Cup qualifier.
In total, El Shaarawy has defended the Italian national team 26 times. There are six goals and four assists from the Shanghai Greenland Shenhua striker.
“It is very satisfying, a special evening, because this is my first pair of goals with the national team and I did it wearing the captain’s armband,” El Shaarawy told Rai Sport.
El Shaarawy joined Shanghai Shenhua in July 2019. Since then he has minimal attention to the Italian national team, especially losing the opportunity to play when China did lockdown due to the Corona virus pandemic.
“It shows that you can’t give up, you have to learn to wait and good things will come. I have been practicing alone for a month and I am waiting for the right moment,” he continued.
The 27-year-old striker wanted to return to AS Roma on loan. However, his hopes did not come true because he indicated that Roma were not serious.
“The Chinese League is suspended until February, so I really want to play. I am always ready to adapt and come back, including in terms of salary, so if the negotiations don’t finish well, it’s not because of me,” El Shaarawy confirms.
