The National Sports Institute of El Salvador (INDES) achieved unanimous and important agreements for the approval of the sports program and the definition of the dates of the XXI edition of the Codicader 2024 Games.

Thus, El Salvador will organize the secondary level student regional (15-17 years) from October 2 to 11, while the program will be made up of 11 sports, as established last week at the Ordinary Meeting of the Steering Committee of the Council of the Central American Isthmus of Sports and Recreation (Codicader).

Chess, athletics, basketball, handball, soccer, judo, karate, swimming, taekwondo, table tennis, and volleyball was the sports proposal made by Dinora Acevedo, INDES Sports Development Manager, which was well accepted by the representatives of the different countries.

“We are quite satisfied, confirmation of the 11 sports that we are going to host the Codicader was achieved, the number of athletes was discussed and handball was included, which is a men’s and women’s team sport instead of baseball, and They established the dates that we had as a proposal,” commented Acevedo.

For its part, Panama will organize the Central American Sports Games for students with disabilities in the disciplines of para-athletics, para-swimming and goalball.

Prior to the approvals, the ad honorem president of INDES, Yamil Bukele, welcomed the representatives of Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, Guatemala, Belize and Panama, who participated virtually.

“Welcome to your home, El Salvador. I believe that this is an important and transcendental moment for the entire Central American region. Welcome to all the institutions in charge of sports, recreation and physical education in the area,” said the official.

Bukele highlighted the participation of the Minister of Education, Mauricio Pineda, the German Development Cooperation (GIZ) and the Paralympic Committee of the Americas.

“We are working hard alongside the Government led by President Nayib Bukele. As you have seen, there are drastic changes in El Salvador and a fundamental part is sports, education, recreation, physical education and all the components that help create productive people for our society,” Bukele emphasized.

The head of the institute also emphasized that El Salvador is prepared to organize the highest student competition in the Central American region.

The Minister of Education, José Mauricio Pineda, also participated in the meeting; María José Muñoz, regional coordinator of the Global Program that is part of the German Development Cooperation; Michele Formonte, executive director of the Americas Paralympic Committee; Dinora Acevedo, INDES Sports Development Manager; Rafael Morán, head of the Institute’s Opportunities Department, among others.

For the Minister of Education, the Codicader Games are important for the reconstruction of the country.

“I am convinced that the Codicader will enhance the recreation, coexistence and talent of our children and adolescents, who have dreams, who have goals, who have aspirations and who we are going to support as the government of President Nayib Bukele,” he commented. the Minister of Education.

For Maiqueline López, representative of the Nicaraguan Sports Institute (IND), collegiate games are important for the region and highlighted that El Salvador is well committed to sports and young people.

“Codicader is a small project, but very big for our countries and very significant for sports in Central America. It is the stage where the seed is sown in each of our young people, students and athletes so that they fall in love and embark on a sports career,” said López.

Dinora Acevedo explained that another of the commitments acquired as the country that presides over the Codicader will be the development of a strategic plan that the regional entity currently does not have. In addition, she confirmed that the official mascot of the games will be Goz, who will sport a renewed figure.
