The deputies approved this Monday to authorize the Government to subscribe the financing for the acquisition of 1,500 buses, with which a good part of the fleet will be replaced and modernized and will improve public passenger transportation in the metropolitan area of San Salvador (AMSS).
The authorization gives the green light to the signing of a credit in kind, for $179.5 million with the company Yutong Bus & Coach, from the People’s Republic of China, which will deliver the 1,500 units.
Legislator Edgardo Mulato highlighted that as a group they supported the initiative because thousands of Salvadorans, Approximately 70% of the population use public transportationwhich for years has been deplorable.
The parliamentarian added that 43.8% of the bus fleet has between 16 and 20 years of use.so they require change as ordered by law, according to data from the Ministry of Public Works and Transportation.
The new 1,500 buses will represent approximately 15.3% of the 9,816 units that currently provide service on the different routes that cover the AMSS and that are mostly over 20 years old, stipulated by the Land Transportation, Traffic and Road Safety Law. .
