The Olympic Committee of El Salvador (COES) revealed that, together with the National Sports Institute of El Salvador (INDES), it presented its candidacy to host the surfing discipline at the 2027 Pan American Games.

“The Olympic Committee of El Salvador, through the INDES, has taken steps before the Olympic Committee of Paraguay, which has presented Asunción to Panam Sports as a candidate for the 2027 Pan American Games, so that surfing, in all its modalities, can be developed in the sub-headquarters of El Salvador, in the event that the continental event is awarded to this candidacy,” highlights the COES letter.

If Asunción is chosen by Panam Sports, the dream of sports institutions will come true in the waves of El Salvador, which would be the first Central American country in history to host Pan American Games competitions.

“This is a new example that the coordinated work between institutions bears fruit for the benefit of Salvadoran sports. The support of INDES, Surf City and the search for the internationality of sport through the Olympic Committee of El Salvador, continue to put our country in the spotlight for the best sporting events in the world,” he stressed.

The president of the COES, Armando Bruni, said he was excited by the possibility of El Salvador being a potential sub-host of the 2027 Pan American Games. “This achievement is the result of joint work. An honor to be part of this great moment that will further promote sport in our country,” he said.

The president of INDES, Yamil Bukele, also expressed his enthusiasm at the possibility of being the sub-headquarters.

“Our waves could receive the best surfers who qualify for the 2027 Pan American Games! The Salvadoran waves are ready to receive a new event of the highest level,” she said.

In January of this year, the Pan American Sports Organization Odepa, as it is also known, despite the efforts of the Colombian Olympic Committee (COC) and the inability of the government of the coffee-growing country to pay the $4 million that fell due in December 2023 , took away the venue of the games from the South American country.
