The Central American nation achieved the world seal as a safe tourist destination in the “new normal”. The City Nation Place forum also evaluated it as the country with the best attention to the pandemic in Latin America

For its part, the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC, for its acronym in English), gave the distinctive “Safe Travel” (“Safe Destination”) to El Salvador. All this after evaluating the eight biosafety protocols of the tourism sector, which have successfully marked the orderly and safe reopening of the so-called “industry without chimneys”.

These protocols were submitted to the WTTC for consideration by the Ministry of Tourism of El Salvador. They met all the standards of both the World Health Organization and the United States Center for Disease Control and Prevention and the World Tourism Organization.

With this badge, the Ministry of Tourism and the Ministry of Culture of El Salvador may grant the seal of biosecurity to tourist and cultural establishments. As well as recreational parks that pass the WTTC standards.

With international standards

The Minister of Tourism, Morena Valdez, announced that the “Safe Destination” seal “allows travelers to identify the countries that have adopted protocols that meet international biosafety standards. They adapt the tourist offer to international standards and requirements related to health and hygiene that are required in the ‘new normal’ ”.

An additional characteristic is that El Salvador obtained the seal of “Safe Destination” as a country, unlike others in the region, which were only granted the seal for certain cities or tourist destinations. Thus, the excellent coordination with the private sector stands out, not only in its formulation but also in the effective application of the protocols.
