El Salvador Enables the Fourth Dose of the COVID-19 Vaccine – NBC Puerto Rico

The Government of El Salvador enabled this Friday the inoculation of a fourth dose of the vaccine against covid-19 for those over 12 years of age, according to what the Presidency published on social networks.

“El Salvador becomes the first country in the world to make the fourth dose against #COVID19 available to everyone over 12 years of age,” he said on social media.

He indicated that it is voluntary, free and is also “available to foreigners” from 90 days after the third dose is placed.

The health minister, Francisco Alabí, stated on his Twitter account that the country has the necessary vaccines “to continue this important strategy that protects and saves lives.”

El Salvador has placed 10,307,278 vaccines against covid-19, of which 4,577,641 are first doses and 4,275,527 belong to a second, while 1,454,110 are third inoculations.

At the end of December 2021, batch 52 of vaccines against covid-19 arrived in El Salvador and the country reached 15,604,580 doses received.

The authorities have registered 160,942 official cases during the pandemic, of which 4,107 people died, 140,603 recovered and 16,232 are “active”.

Added to these data are 5,688 suspected cases, a figure in which the Government has been including people with symptoms and a positive antigen test for the coronavirus.

Authorities in El Salvador have recognized three waves of infections since March 2020. The first wave of infections, an official source recently said, lasted three months and took place between May and August 2020.

The second wave lasted four months, between January and April 2021, and the third wave was registered between June and the first days of November, without the government authorities publicly warning it at the time.

However, El Salvador experienced its stage with the most infections between January and February 2022, reporting up to 972 cases in a single day. This is the highest figure recorded in this country during the entire pandemic.
