La Selecta continues its preparation for the next matches, both for the World Cup qualifiers and for the friendlies that the team will have in the coming months. In this context, the last camp developed where there were some surprises. Blue and white players spoke about their concern.

“I think this week of work has been important to be able to continue along the same lines that we have been working on, in a good way, and hoping to be able to reach the playoffs with a good rhythm,” said Salvadoran goalkeeper Mario González.

“We are aware of what we are going to play for and what we have to do. Always committed to work, that is what will lead us to be able to win in those games,” added goalkeeper González.

Regarding the arrival of Águila’s goalkeeper, González mentioned that there is healthy competition within the national team, and there are always people who want to join the blue and white; “support the project to classify and (it is) something that helps them work twice as hard to stand out in the last payroll.”

The goalkeeper of the Alliance team said that they must win in the debut of the qualifying rounds against Puerto Rico, and begin to control the games, because the mistakes they have made previously are the reason for the draws or defeats, “but now we are already working in that,” González mentioned.

For his part, Luis Ángel Firpo’s player, Styven Vásquez, mentioned that they are motivated. The group is trying to make the idea of Spanish coach David Dóniga fit in and they continue to work in the best way.

“I feel quite motivated; quite well, trying to do things in the best way to be taken into account. I think that as a Salvadoran player we must always do well in the teams to be taken into account in the national team,” he added.

The new roster for the camp also marked the return of Leonardo Menjívar, Alianza player, after he was absent in some commitments for the blue and white, and for which he mentioned that he feels happy and motivated by his return, “something that “It motivates any player” and they have to give the best of themselves in the team to continue in the national team.

The player mentioned that there is harmony in the group, both with the new additions and with the previous ones, and they are trying to understand the coach’s idea of the game.

The team will debut in the qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup on June 6 against Puerto Rico, at the Cuscatlán stadium, and will close 2024 as a visitor against Saint Vincent of the Grenadines on the 9th of the same month. On July 7, 2025, they will face Anguilla as a visitor and will close against Suriname in Cuscatlán on the 10th of the same month.
