El Salvador completes the covid vaccination of 41% of the target population

El Salvador exceeded 5.6 million vaccines applied against covid-19, with which 41% of the target population completed the two-dose protocol, according to data reviewed by Efe this Saturday.

Official data, reported on the government site covid19.gob.sv, indicate that 5,602,223 doses have been applied, of which 3,341,998 correspond to the first dose and 2,260,225 to the second.

The government estimates that vaccinating 5.5 million people can achieve “herd immunity,” according to local press reports.

The Health authorities of El Salvador have received more than 10.4 million vaccines of various formulas against covid-19 through direct purchases, donations and the Covax system of the World Health Organization in 29 batches.

More than 43% of the doses received by this country have been applied, according to the vaccination figures registered up to August 20.

El Salvador counts 92,686 confirmed cases of covid-19, of which 2,831 died, without the authorities having indicated the number that corresponds to the variants of “concern” that circulate in the country.

The daily infections registered by the authorities have tended to fall in recent days, compared to the figure of 303 cases computed on August 10.

Since last June, El Salvador experienced a rise in daily infections, which went from 134 cases, on June 1, to 303 on August 10.
