San Salvador. China and El Salvador concluded the second round of negotiations with significant agreements to move towards the signing of a Free Trade Agreement (FTA), the Minister of Economy, María Luisa Hayem, reported on Friday.
“We have successfully completed the second round” to reach the FTA, Hayem said on the social network X.
Both nations began negotiations on April 16.
The parties, according to Hayem, have already reached “agreements in the texts” on trade in goods, technical trade barriers, temporary entry of people, competition, environment, cooperation on standards and dispute resolution, among other issues.
“We continue to move towards the goal set of finalizing the negotiation of the FTA with China with the objective of opening opportunities to strengthen commercial exchange between both countries and generate new investments in our country,” said the Salvadoran minister.
Bilateral trade, according to official sources, exceeded $1.8 billion last year, which doubled the figure before 2018.
