Madrid nearly opened the scoring in the 9th minute, but Rodrygo’s long-range shot was saved by Girona goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga. The Brazilian striker had another golden chance in the 23rd minute, but his close-range shot hits the post.

The goal increased the enthusiasm of Real Madrid players. Two minutes later, Marco Asensio with just 11 minutes on the pitch came close to the lead, but his powerful close range shot was saved by Gazzaniga.

Left behind by a goal, Girona tried to reply. In the end they got a penalty in the 79th minute. David Lopez’s header in the box touched Asensio’s hand and was confirmed by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR).

Cristhian Stuani, only entered the field in the 76th minute, stepped forward as executor and successfully scored the ball into Real Madrid’s goal after his shot in the lower right corner outsmarted Courtois who guessed the wrong ball direction. The score became a 1-1 draw.
