El Real has invested one million euros in measures against Covid
In view of the repeated information in some media about an alleged concealment of cases of Covid-19 produced in the Royal Theater over the last few months, this institution has issued a statement refuting the statements that have been made in the mentioned information:
“The Teatro Real wants to state that health safety for workers and the public is its priority, and then to keep the artistic activity open to musicians, singers and spectators.
First. On the eve of the premiere of the production of Peter Grimes, which will take place on April 19, the health situation in the Royal Theater as of today is controlled and only one positive case has been detected, in 452 tests, on April 5, which is isolated.
Second. From the return of Christmas holidays until April 8, 2,515 auditions have been made to the theater staff, both technical and office staff and the different artistic casts.
Third. In that time, an outbreak was detected last March, in which 1,077 tests were carried out, with a balance of 15 positives among soloists, actors, artistic production staff and offices.
Bedroom. In the eight days that have elapsed in the month of April, a total of 452 tests have been carried out, with the result of a single positive -in the cast-, which shows the rigorous compliance with the Covid-19 Control Framework Plan of the Royal Theater that establishes the periodicity of the tests to its employees and casts.
Fifth. To the artistic casts of A masked ball, Rusalka, Don Giovanni, Norma, Siegfried Y Peter Grimes, made up of a total of 283 people, 2,727 tests were taken (an average of between 9 and 10 tests each).
Sixth. The Theater will continue, as it has been doing since it reopened after the pandemic, carrying out periodic tests in compliance with its rigorous protocol, show after show.
Seventh. The General Directorate of Public Health of the Community of Madrid is informed when an aggregation of positive cases is detected. A spokesman for the aforementioned direction communicated last Thursday to this theater that “the evolution of the situation is correct.”
Eighth. In the report of the Community of Madrid on the outbreak that it detected in March, and in application of the strategy of early detection, monitoring and control against Covid-19, the health authority insists that the Teatro Real “has intensified the measures of prevention, has followed the recommendations that have been indicated and continues to do periodic screenings ”.
Nineth. In its objective of contributing and being an active part of Safe Culture, the Teatro Real has invested nearly one million euros since it reopened after the pandemic in guaranteeing the safety and health of its staff, artists and the public. In the construction of a safe place for all, it has invested 80,000 euros in masks, whose use is mandatory and permanent throughout the theater, including rehearsals and performances -except for the soloists-, and 241,519 euros in 4,882 tests for the detection of the Covid-19, tests that will continue to be carried out subject to the guidelines suggested by the health authorities, which shows, once again, the rigorous compliance with the Covid-19 protocol of the Royal Theater.
Tenth. The Teatro Real states that since last August, 734 tests have been performed in the Titular Choir of the Teatro Real, belonging to the Intermezzo company, in a group of 51 people. Since September, and taking into account that the Choir staff was on vacation between January 15 and February 5, there have been a total of 17 cases, of which 9 correspond to the month of March.
Eleventh. Some facts about the Choir:

In October, 1 case was registered on day 3; 1 case on the 4th and 1 case on the 29th.
