EL PASO, Texas – Live Active El Paso invites the community to celebrate International Yoga Day in El Paso and Father’s Day with a free yoga event.
The appointment is at 8:00 am on Sunday, June 20 at Memorial Park, 1701 N. Copia.
Every year hundreds of people around the world celebrate International Yoga Day on June 21, but this year Live Active El Paso will celebrate the occasion the day before in the reserve section of Memorial Park.
“Yoga aligns with Live Active El Paso’s vision of living a healthy lifestyle through physical activity and mental health,” said Ben Fyffe, Director of Cultural Affairs and Recreation.
“With the help and support of Live Active El Paso partners, we have been able to host this unique health event for the public and we are excited to be a part of the overall wellness of our community,” he added.
The free event, led by Shanti Yoga and Free the Yoga, is open to all ages, including men and women.
Yoda El Paso International Day will follow the following calendar:
- • 8:30 am – Meditation
- • 9:00 am – Hatha Yoga
- • 9:30 a.m. – Vinyasa Flow Yoga
- • 10:15 am – Sound Bath (use of sound to nurture the mind and body)
Live Active El Paso will also offer a special meditation class by Empowerment Health and Wellness, as well as a sound bath workshop by Bright Compass. The special event will include health and wellness booths from Live Active El Paso partners.
People who want to participate in the yoga session should bring their own yoga mat or something similar, wear comfortable clothes and shoes, and water to stay hydrated.
First observed in 2015, International Yoga Day is celebrated around the world to spread awareness and the importance of physical and mental health. Yoga is a physical, mental and spiritual practice, which originated in India. The word “yoga” comes from the Sanskrit meaning “to join” or “to unite”.
