Premium subscribers, who have full access to EL PAÍS and Cinco Días, can now request access to The New York Times without making any additional payment.

The EL PAÍS Premium subscription allows, since last Tuesday, full access to the American newspaper The New York Times. The agreement reached between two of the main reference media in the world is the first of its kind implemented by a Spanish newspaper. In this electoral year in the United States, in which Kamala Harris and Donald Trump are fighting for the White House, at a critical moment and international context, marked by conflicts in the Middle East and Eastern Europe, EL PAÍS offers its readers the most complete and transversal political and international information thanks to this great alliance.

Premium subscribers will have access to the analyzes carried out by leading firms in the English-speaking worldsuch as the winner of the Nobel Prize in Economics Paul Krugman, the three-time winner of the Pulitzer Prize Thomas L. Friedman, or the sociologist Tressie McMillan Cottom; who join big brands from EL PAÍS, such as Martín Caparrós, Elvira Lindo or Leonardo Padura. But not only, since the rest of the sections of the American newspaper are also available, including entertainment and sports (Cooking, Games, Wirecutter y The Athletic).

Access to The New York Times is complete and It does not entail additional payments, although its activation must be requested by the Premium subscriber (You will receive the steps to make this request in your email). The modality is available both in Spain and in Latin American countries. Premium subscribers have, among their advantages, two independent usage accounts, but only the user who pays the fee will be able to enjoy the new service.

The director of EL PAÍS, Pepa Bueno, values the agreement: “This alliance reflects the will of EL PAÍS to offer its readers the best and most demanding information available at a time of special global tension due to the wars in the Middle East and Ukraine or the United States elections. And also about the challenges sustained over time such as the climate crisis or the debate on migration. Two global views, one from the United States, the other from Europe. It is a guarantee to do it with the help of a reference like The New York Times, also a pioneer in digital transformation.”

Luis Baena, general director of marketing at PRISA Media, the business unit in which EL PAÍS is integrated, indicates that the newspaper wanted to “make a commitment to improve the subscriber value proposition.” And he adds: “We have chosen The New York Times because, like EL PAÍS, it is also a global reference and adds an additional vision of the world that brings diversity to our subscribers; In addition to that, it increases the offer of entertainment services and other content.”
